New Conference Presentation: Effects of a Non-Diet Nutrition Education Program on Eating Behaviour and Body Image Presented at an International Confer
Asst. Prof. Tuğba Türkcan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Health Sciences at Istanbul Gelisim University, presented the findings of her research as a poster presentation at the Appearance Matters 11 Conference, hosted by the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) in Bristol, United Kingdom.
The study, titled "Effects of an Eight-Week Online Non-Diet Nutrition Education Program on Eating Behaviour, Body Image, and Well-Being: A Randomised Controlled Trial," evaluated the effects of an eight-week online nutrition education program based on the non-diet approach on eating behaviours, body image, and psychological well-being among adult women.
Designed as a single-blind randomized controlled trial, the study included 70 women aged 19–35 years with a normal body mass index. Participants were randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group, with the intervention group receiving eight weeks of online group-based nutrition education. The study assessed intuitive eating, eating behaviours, body appreciation, body dissatisfaction, and psychological well-being.
The findings demonstrated that participants who received the online nutrition education showed significant improvements in intuitive eating, body appreciation, and psychological well-being, while body dissatisfaction and restrained eating behaviours significantly decreased. No significant changes were observed in the control group throughout the study period.
The results suggest that non-diet and weight-neutral nutrition approaches may support not only healthier eating behaviours but also improvements in body image and psychological well-being. Furthermore, the findings indicate that digitally delivered nutrition education programs may represent an effective and practical strategy for promoting public health.
We congratulate Dr. Tuğba Türkcan on her successful presentation at this international scientific conference and wish her continued success in her academic endeavors.
