Interview with Gülben Alkan, Student of Communication and Design Department!

An interview was held with Gülben Alkan, a 4th-grade student at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF) Department of Communication and Design.

The selection and promotion days of Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), which started on July 28, 2021, ended on August 20, 2021. We made a short interview with Gülben Alkan, a 4th-grade student of the Communication and Design Department, who was on duty during the selection and promotion days.

1. Hello Gulben. What do you think about our department lecturers offering you an offer to take part in the promotion days? Can we learn why you want to take part?

First of all, I would like to thank my teachers for allowing us to take part in such an event. In my opinion, the fact that the school's students are assigned in this way has enabled us to have a different experience both in terms of promoting the school and throughout our education life. The reason why I wanted to take part in this event was that we were at home all the time due to the pandemic and I missed my school. We still had an antisocial life. Being there to represent the department and school was effective, as I wanted to socialize and increase my communication with people.

2. Can you share your experiences in this process?

As I mentioned, we couldn't socialize much because we were stuck in our homes due to the Coronavirus. Our communication with people started to work remotely. Before I started the process, I had some reservations about whether I would be able to get along with other staff members, and what kind of environment it would be. But when we started the process, everyone's being so sincere and positive caused me to destroy my prejudices. The team worked very systematically. We were able to solve the smallest problem between us immediately. Thanks to this event, I made new friends and I am really happy to be assigned here. I and my friend Rahnaz Sönmez were assigned from our department. There were at least two students from each department. When one of us had a job, it was an opportunity for the other to complete it.

3. What do our department and university mean to you?

In my opinion, preference promotion days have an important role in terms of recognition of both our university and our department by prospective students. As a student of the Department of Communication and Design, I enjoyed telling the students about my experiences and my school. I think that listening to a student who is studying the department they will choose is very effective in their decision-making processes. When some prospective students came to the Department of Graphic Design, they were also able to get information about the Department of Communication and Design. This created new choices in their minds.

4. What would be your most important advice to our prospective candidates?

One of my most important recommendations for prospective students is to choose the departments where they will not be bored while studying and will be happy in their business life in the future. Because the department we want affects our continuity in lessons and our success at school. I think they should try not to be affected too much by external factors; Not everyone has to be a doctor or engineer. I think they should focus on which department, and what skills they are interested in. I wish them success in their lives.
