How is the Summer Internship Process Going?

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Communication and Design Department students encounter their first career path at the end of their second and third year when they start their summer internships. In this context, we answered the questions of the students about the summer internship.

When is the earliest I can start my internship?

Within the scope of Summer Internship I and Summer Internship II in the curriculum of our department, students can do their compulsory internship at the end of the second and third semesters. Students continuing their education can do their internship in the summer term. However, there is no such requirement for graduate students. In addition, students who have extended their undergraduate education must pay the internship fee specified for the internship and send the receipt in the annex of the application form (Students who have completed the normal education period of 4 years for undergraduate students are students who extend).

Summer semester internships start from the last day of the spring semester final exams. However, before you start your internship as of the last day of the final exams specified in the academic calendar, the internship start date must be notified to our department chair and dean at least 15 days before the internship insurance entry can be made.

In this context, first of all, you need to determine the institution where you will do your internship. Then, the suitability of the relevant institution and the position worked in the institution should be approved by consulting with our department head and internship coordinator Asst. Prof. Dr. Aslı Kasar. In addition, it is possible to get support for your questions from Res. Asst. Ayten Bengisu Cansever and Res. Asst. Büşra Kılıç during this process.

After receiving the relevant approval, fill in the compulsory internship form in the computer environment and sign the student signature part. Have the department head and the internship place officially sign the relevant fields.

Have the internship start form approved by student affairs (at least 15 days before the start of the internship) so that the insurance entry can be made.

Scan your internship start form (via a mobile application or browser) and send an e-mail to gsfstaj@gelisim.edu.tr using your student e-mail address.

The insurance procedures of the students whose application form is approved are initiated by Istanbul Gelişim University.

Do we have the right to be absent from the internship? Is our internship considered invalid when we are absent?

A student who does not attend his internship for at least nine working days without an excuse is deemed to have never done an internship.

Will my internship period be extended if I am absent? Will my insurance continue?

Work days equal to the excused/unexcused absence period are added to the internship period. In this case, upon the application of the student, additional insurance is made for the missing days. If the student or the internship place does not report this situation, the responsibility belongs to them. Additional insurance is made for the student who extends the determined internship period optionally. If the student or the internship place does not report this situation, the responsibility belongs to them.

How many working days should we calculate in a week during the internship?

In internship programs, a week is considered to be five working days. In workplaces that work on Saturday, Saturday is also considered a working day. In institutions where Saturday is not worked, the internship should not include Saturday.
Before graduating, a student studying in our department must have done an internship for 60 working days. 60 working days can be done in a single time, or it can be done in the form of 30+30 working days. However, the points to be noted here are as follows:
  • Sundays should not be included in the internship.
  • In institutions where Saturday is not worked, the internship should not include Saturday. “Does he/she have insurance in another institution?” in the form. The student must mark the part.
  • When determining the dates, official and religious holidays should be calculated by subtracting from the number of internship days: July 15, Democracy and National Unity Day, Feast of Sacrifice and Eve, August 30 Victory Day.
Can I extend my internship period? If I extend it, will my insurance continue?

No additional insurance is made for the student who extends the determined internship period voluntarily.
Sundays should not be included in the internship.
I have completed my compulsory internship. If there is a place where I want to do another internship, can I do a voluntary internship?
Students who have a compulsory internships in their curriculum cannot do internships voluntarily.

What should I do if I have insurance?

In the form, “Does he/she have insurance at another institution?” must be marked as “yes”.

How long does it take to deliver my notebook after the internship is over?

It must be submitted in September before the new semester starts.

Can I work if I am asked to work on public holidays?

Official and religious holidays are not considered working days. While determining the dates, official and religious holidays should be calculated by subtracting the number of internship days.

Can I hand-deliver my internship application form?

The application form should be sent to gsfstaj@gelisim.edu.tr by e-mail, and the university e-mail address with the extension xxxxxxxxx@ogr.gelisim.edu.tr, which starts with the student number, is used when sending.

I don't know my student's e-mail address, what should I do?
