The Importance of Body Language in Political Communication Discussed at IGU FFA

On January 2, 2025, a session of the "Body Language and Diction" course, part of the joint curriculum for the Departments of Communication and Design and Graphic Design at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), was conducted by Research Assistant Ayten Bengisu Cansever Bayhan. The course, normally led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Aslı Kasar, offered students a fresh perspective this week.

During the class, Cansever Bayhan addressed the topics of intercultural body language and the use of body language in political communication. She provided insights into the diversity of body language perceptions across different cultures and how these perceptions influence communication processes. Additionally, she explained, with examples, how the strategic use of body language by political leaders impacts voters.

The class adopted an interactive approach, engaging students in practical exercises on using body language in both daily and professional life. The impact of body language on trust, perception, and social leadership in the context of political communication was thoroughly examined. Students actively participated in discussions by asking questions on these topics.

At the end of the session, Research Assistant Ayten Bengisu Cansever Bayhan expressed her satisfaction with the students' interest and engagement during the class. She also wished them success in integrating the knowledge they had gained throughout the term into their personal and professional lives.
