Among the selected works of G. H. Mead - 1886-1929 -, prepared in this context, there are texts with the following titles: “The Relationship of Play with Education”, “The Working Hypothesis in Social Reform”, “Social Placement: Its Origin and Function”, “About the Perception of Animals”, “Physiological Social Psychology as a Correspondence to Psychology”, “Social Consciousness and Consciousness of Meaning”, “What Social Objects Must Psychology Presuppose?”, “Social Consciousness Mechanism”, “Social Self”, “Psychological Basis of Internationalism”, “Natural Rights and the Theory of the Political Institution” , “A Behavioral Explanation of the Significant Symbol”, “The Formation of the Self and Social Control”, “The Objective Reality of Perspectives”, “The Nature of Aesthetic Experience”, “The Nature of the Past”.
Research Assistant Ayten Bengisu Cansever from Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Fine Arts Communication and Design Department expressed her views on the subject as follows:
“The works of George Herbert Mead, who is considered to be the founder of symbolic interaction and one of the pioneers of the Chicago sociological tradition, receive numerous references in international literature. For this reason, it was very important to ensure that the works were translated into Turkish for the first time and read again in the national literature. We, in fact, decided to translate these works as a result of our work that lasted for about 1 year with our team of graduate students and academics. In fact, the main reason for our decision was that compared to the international literature, there were not many studies on Mead in the national literature and his works were not included except for his certain thoughts. I think that this work is extremely necessary and useful in order to fully understand Mead's thoughts in the national literature and to give him more space and assimilation in the field of social sciences in future studies.”
We congratulate Research Assistant Ayten Bengisu Cansever and wish her continued work.
