The Department of Communication and Design is one of the rapidly emerging fields in today's world, gaining increasing importance alongside the development of new communication technologies. With the widespread use of social media, digital content, and mobile devices, the limitations of time and space in communication processes have been eliminated. Institutions and target audiences, which were once passive in traditional communication channels, have become active participants thanks to new communication environments. This shift forces institutions to redefine environmental conditions and adapt their practices accordingly.
Our department stands out from other design programs by offering a combined approach to communication and design, adapting to today's digital world while also embracing a multidisciplinary perspective. The Department of Communication and Design aims to develop students who can think analytically, create products aligned with specified goals, are responsible, work well in teams, stay up-to-date with global developments, and produce sustainable, interactive designs. In this context, we provide strong education in communication, digital media, and advertising.
Our department aims to cultivate designers with advanced knowledge in information and communication technologies, a developed aesthetic sense, and the ability to successfully integrate technology and aesthetics into their projects. Additionally, we provide the infrastructure necessary for students to create creative design solutions and transform their ideas into effective visual messages. As a result, our graduates find opportunities to specialize in fields such as filmmaking, advertising, new media, and public relations, establishing themselves as key professionals in the modern communication and visual media industries.
Our department also offers Erasmus mobility opportunities. The application requirements may vary each academic year, but generally, students must be at least in their second year, have completed a certain number of credits, and maintain a certain grade point average. We provide this opportunity to support our students in gaining international educational experience.
Additionally, the Department of Communication and Design offers double major and minor programs. High-achieving students have the opportunity to obtain a diploma in a second field for free. The minor program allows students to take additional courses in a specific area and earn a certificate that does not replace a diploma.
To help our students gain industry experience, we also offer a 60-day mandatory internship program. We support students in finding internships through our events and the industry connections of our academic staff. This enables our students to easily find internship placements and take a strong first step in their careers.
As the Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Communication and Design at Istanbul Gelisim University, we are excited to welcome you and embark on a successful educational journey together!
