The event titled “Listening to Orhan Kemal from His Son” organized by the Language, Thought and Literature Club was held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 between 15:00-16:30 at K Block - Firnas Auditorium. Orhan Kemal’s son Işık Öğütçü was the speaker in the event.
The talk titled “Listening to Orhan Kemal from His Son” began after the opening speech of Istanbul Gelişim University Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Kenan Aydın. Afterwards, Head of the Turkish Language and Literature Department Prof. Dr. Hacer Gülşen; Language, Thought and Literature Club advisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şerefnur Atik and IGU Architecture Department Lecturer Dr. Burak Kaan Yılmazsoy gave speeches about Orhan Kemal. Following the introductory part of the event, Işık Öğütçü was invited to the stage and the conversation began.
In the talk that attracted great attention, participants had the opportunity to hear about the famous author Orhan Kemal from his own son. Işık Öğütçü shared with the participants the life of his father Orhan Kemal and what he witnessed about his life. Öğütçü also informed the interested parties about his studies on Orhan Kemal, his published works and the Orhan Kemal Museum. The talk ended after the questions from the participants were answered. After the talk, the field analysis and model works made by IGU Architecture Department students based on the places in Orhan Kemal's novels were exhibited. The event ended after the exhibition was visited.
