An event was organized by the IGU Turkish Language and Literature Department to commemorate the our national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy and to emphasize the importance of the Turkish War of Independence on the occasion of the 104th anniversary of the adoption of the Independence March. Turkish Language and Literature Department Research Assistant Remzi Soytürk was the speaker at the event held in J Block - Classroom No. 344 on Wednesday, 19.03.2025 between 15:00-16:00.
Following the opening speech of Turkish Language and Literature Department Head Prof. Dr. Hacer Gülşen, the event began with a presentation by Res. Asst. Remzi Soytürk on how the process of the adoption of the Turkish National Anthem was handled in the memoirs. In his speech, Soytürk discussed how a need for a national anthem arose, the competition process that was initiated for the writing of the anthem, Mehmet Akif Ersoy's writing process of the Turkish National Anthem, and the process of the Turkish National Anthem being accepted in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. At the end of the speech, different compositions of the National Anthem were played to the participants. The event ended after questions from participants were answered.
As IGU Turkish Language and Literature Department, we also remember our national poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy and all our independence heroes with mercy and gratitude on this occasion, in the 104th year of the acceptance of our Independence March.
