Bicycle Exhibition Opened at the Islands Museum

The Islands Museum “Bicycle Exhibition” is opening in the main building of Büyükada Aya Nikola with the theme of “137 Years on the Bicycle”.

The "Bicycle Exhibition" sheds light on the history of cycling, which has become a hallmark of the Islands over the years, and its spread by coming to Istanbul and especially to our Islands. From famous writers to sportsmen, historical personalities, local people who grew up on bicycles, and who cycled the island roads by bicycle. Adalı's bicycles, accessories, oral history narratives and memories of those who have passed through the Islands form the backbone of the exhibition.

There are about 40 bicycles in the exhibition. The stories of the British traveler Thomas Stevens, who traveled around the world by bicycle for the first time, about Büyükada, which he stopped by in 1885, and the stories of the artists, from Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar to Nâzım Hikmet, on their way to the Islands, are also part of the exhibition.

The exhibition, which focuses on how the bicycle stories in the memories of the islanders come from the past to the present, also emphasizes the 'sustainability' feature of the bicycle, which has left its mark on our day beyond functionality, and underlines how it transforms from a tool to a purpose without a carbon footprint.

Visitors, who will visit Turkey's first comprehensive bicycle exhibition, aim to remind once again how we can hang on to the pedals to overcome the climate crisis that has shaken our world, while blending the history of bicycle with their own bicycle memories.
