Digital Surveillance: Convenience or Risk? Students Debated

The Marka Aktif Club, founded by our department's students, held an important event at the Firnas Auditorium on April 7th at 12:00 PM. Public Relations and Publicity department students discussed the topic of "digital surveillance" from multiple perspectives in a British Parliamentary Debate format.

The Dilemma of the Digital Age Was Addressed
In today's digitalizing world, alongside the rapid advancement of technology, the fine line between the potential of data mining to provide social security and the risk of it threatening individual freedoms is gaining increasing importance. In this context, Public Relations and Publicity department students addressed the question, "Does digital surveillance create a convenience or a risk to human privacy?" within an academic and social framework.
In this organization, which adds value to our university's innovative culture of debate, the critical thinking and public speaking skills of the prospective communication professional students came to the forefront.

Effective Analysis with Concrete Examples and Current Data
In the event held in the British Parliamentary Debate format, the participating teams did not leave their arguments purely at a theoretical level. The students offered a highly interactive debate environment to the audience by supporting their claims with concrete examples, academic studies, and current statistical data.
The main discussion topics that stood out in the event organized by the Marka Aktif Club were as follows:
  • Social Security: The critical role of data analysis in crime prevention and ensuring public safety.
  • Personal Privacy: Unauthorized tracking of individuals' digital footprints and violations of fundamental freedoms.
  • Ethical Boundaries: The responsibilities of technology companies and lawmakers in data processing.
This communication and society-oriented event contributed to the multifaceted academic development of the students while successfully reflecting our university's vision of approaching current problems from a scientific perspective.

A Strong Foundation for Future Events
This successful event, which took place with the intense participation of Public Relations and Publicity department students, laid a strong foundation for new academic workshops and panels to be held in the future. The Marka Aktif Club is expected to produce new projects that will keep the intellectual debate environment alive within the university.
