 Mental Health Awareness Month

May has been celebrated as mental health awareness month since 1949. World Mental Health Awareness Month aims to make people feel hopeful by addressing mental health issues on an empathetic and unifying plane, encouraging people to take action and create lasting change. Mental Health Awareness Month aims to raise public awareness about mental health problems such as depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder, to tell the public about the problems experienced by people with mental health problems, and to convey information on reaching mental health and psychological well-being. In addition to these, it also aims to draw attention to the issue of suicide, which can be caused by some mental problems. It also aims to reduce stigma and discrimination against mental problems 1.
People with mental problems may hesitate to seek help or even talk to their loved ones about it, for fear of being judged by their environment. In its simplest form, we can think of it like this: Just as we seek treatment to heal when we have pain, it is equivalent to seeking help when we feel mentally unwell 2
