Sudan was plunged into a crisis last week after the army seized power in a coup from the transitional government. Perthes has been talking to the major stakeholders in Sudan to find common ground among them. He is also in frequent contact with African Union (AU) and other influential regional states for steering the mediation process in the right direction. Perthes expressed hope that the contours of a deal will emerge in the coming days.
