The event named “TRT Documentary Activities-Current Documentary Production Processes” organized by Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences Department of Radio, Television and Cinema and moderated by RA Erdem Türkavcı was held.
TRT Documentary Broadcast Planning Manager Nurhan Özsoy Taşdemir was the guest of the event and Taşdemir gave information to the participants about the current structure of the documentary film production process. Taşdemir has worked as director, producer, editor, cameraman, production-publisher since 1999 and has directed many award-winning documentaries. Taşdemir also gave information about the issues to be considered while presenting a project to a producer or channel. Stating that the narrative is always the most important element for a qualified documentary, Taşdemir emphasized that the documentary should have an interesting idea.
Taşdemir stated that the beginning, middle and end of the documentary should be clearly determined by the director while the documentary was still in the design phase and that the director should aim to make a curious documentary. Taşdemir suggested the book by Christopher Vogler to the students, titled The Author's Journey. Taşdemir told the students that they could benefit from this book not only for fictional films but also for documentary film projects.
Director, producer and FİYAB (Film Producers Professional Association) Supervisory Board Chairman Emre Akgül, who was among the participants of the event, talked to the students about the problems they may encounter during the documentary production process and the measures they can take. Akgül advised students to avoid making documentaries based on interviews and underlined that not every project with a leap and a fast editing can be described as documentary. The activity named “TRT Documentary Activities-Current Documentary Production Processes” was completed by answering the questions of the students.
