Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that concrete steps are being taken to increase women's employment in the transportation sector. Speaking at the World Bank Women in Transport Network Conference, Uraloğlu stated that they have developed internship programs and equality-focused projects to ensure greater participation of women in the sector.
As part of the Türkiye Rail Logistics Improvement Project, the Ministry has provided internship opportunities to approximately 200 female students, while 148 internship positions have been offered to female students studying in maritime programs. Additionally, the Enhanced Internship Program, which aims to increase women's participation in technical and leadership roles, will be launched soon.
Emphasizing the need for greater visibility of women in the transportation sector, Uraloğlu stated that female drivers are no longer exceptions but an integral part of the industry. He also announced the launch of a new European Union project aimed at creating secure truck parking areas to support female drivers.
Highlighting efforts in the maritime sector as well, the Minister reported that 6,096 female maritime professionals are currently actively employed and that partnerships promoting equal opportunities in the industry have been established.
Uraloğlu emphasized that transportation is not just about moving from one place to another but also represents freedom and independence. He reiterated the commitment to building an inclusive future where women work alongside men under equal conditions in the sector.
