The question about Osman Cevdet Akçay, appointed Central Bank Deputy Governor, is arousing curiosity. Akçay, a graduate of Boğaziçi University's Department of Economics, served as the Chief Economist at Koç Financial Services and Yapı Kredi Bank until 2018.


Born in Trabzon in 1961, Osman Cevdet Akçay graduated from Boğaziçi University's Department of Economics in 1983. He earned his M.Phil in Economics in 1990 and his Ph.D. in 1992 from The City University of New York.


Starting his career in 1985 as a doctoral assistant at The City University of New York, Akçay worked as an instructor at Hunter College and Baruch College between 1986 and 1990 and as a visiting faculty member at Manhattan College, New York, between 1990 and 1991.


In 1992, he began his position as an assistant professor at Boğaziçi University and became an associate professor in the Department of Economics at the same university. In 2001, he moved to Koç University as a full-time faculty member.


Until 2009, Akçay simultaneously held the positions of a faculty member and the Chief Economist at Koçbank and later Yapı Kredi Bank. From 2009 to 2018, he served as the bank’s Chief Economist until his departure.


From July to October 2018, he worked as a consultant at the Ministry of Treasury and Finance of the Republic of Turkey, and from 2018 to 2023, he served as a consultant at Fiba Group, Holding, and Bank.


Dr. Osman Cevdet Akçay is known for his academic achievements and experience in the financial sector. His accomplishments and expertise have significantly influenced his appointment as Central Bank’s Deputy Governor.
