Child Development (Master) (Non Thesis)

“Why do I want to be a Child Development Specialist?” has been presented to attenders by Prof. Dr. William Mosier.

Prof. Dr. William Mosier member of Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Child Development, answered the question, "What is a child development specialist and what does a child development specialist do?".

He remarked that child development specialists evaluate for possible developmental delays, develop intervention plans for parents and families, educate families and assist them with referrals and childcare arrangements. To answer the question, "where does a Child Development Specialist work" he said that they work wherever childcare is provided. Some examples he provided were schools, community assistance organizations, government social services agencies. He continued his speech, explaining the contents of Child Development degree programs. The Child Development programs, as he remarked, offer courses on how to effectively communicate with patients, educate parents, and provide counseling and resources to families. For those who consider a child development degree, he listed the required skills to be a Child Development Specialist and the benefits of this degree. He also emphasized that getting a Child Development education in English will give students the required skills to work in a more diverse and globalized world of the 21st century.

As Professor Mosier mentioned, Gelisim University offers bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees in Child Development. Students may choose dual majors in child psychology, social work, education, or other majors.
