Within the scope of the Healthy Development workshop series organized by the Dean of Students, the event addressed risk factors and protective factors related to substance use during childhood and adolescence, as well as emotion regulation and needs-based approaches. It was emphasized that substance use should be evaluated not only at the behavioral level, but also through emotional, social, and environmental dimensions. The interactive structure of the workshop encouraged active student participation.
The workshop included practical sessions conducted by Asst. Prof. Nurten Elkin, Head of the Department of Child Development and Addiction Prevention Coordinator, and Res. Asst. Kevser Tuğba Çınar Karasu. Through real-life scenarios, participants were encouraged to reflect on substance use and to discuss healthy alternative coping strategies. Scenario-, emotion-, and needs-based interactive methods were used throughout the workshop to increase awareness.
The event aimed to increase university students’ knowledge and awareness of substance addiction, while also helping them recognize healthy and safe coping strategies in risky situations. The workshop attracted strong interest from students due to its interactive and participatory format.
