Child Development (Master) (Non Thesis)








 Orientation Meeting was Held for First Year Students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Child Development


The freshman orientation meeting for Child Development students was on October 10th, 2022, between 13:00-14:00 with the contributions and attendance of Head of Department Assist. Prof. Nurten ELKIN and Assist. Dean Assistant Professor Abdullah Yüksel BARUT.


Nurten ELKIN informed students about the achievements of our university and reminded that in 2022, Gelisim University held the 16th spot in the world and 1st spot in Turkey on the World Impact Rankings, Quality education-(SDG4) category; and in the QS University Rankings EECA 2022 ranking of Developing European and Central Asian Universities the university is among the first 350 universities, 37th in the citations per article category.  ELKIN also, emphasized that we are among the first 60 universities in the international academician category, that we are among the world's top 500 universities in SCIMAGO 2022 Environmental Sciences and Engineering, and that we are the university with the highest number of patent applications in Turkey.

ELKIN invited Hatice Zelal BINGOL who is our alumni who received a toy patent in 2017 and now a member of our department as a research assistant, to speak. BINGOL reported that, with the support and encouragements by Deputy Dean Assoc. Dr. S.  Arda OZTURKCAN, she obtained a patent for the toy she designed within the scope of the Game and Game Materials course. The toy she designed is to support children's hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. The local toy producers are open to new ideas for educational materials, she added, and encouraged our new students for coming up with new ideas and in the future, applying for patents. 

ELKIN, drew attention to the fact that we are the higher education institution with the most international accreditation in Turkey with its 65 internationally accredited programs. She stated that the Turkish and English departments of Child Development also have accreditation.

ELKIN said the education goals of the undergraduate program aims to provide students with skills and knowledge to evaluate the mental, language, motor, social, emotional development and self-care skills of children aged 0-18 who usually are developing, with special needs, in need of protection and at risk. She said that aim is to raise Child Developmentalists who provide services to children, families, educators, and society in supporting their fields of education and skills. ELKIN, drawing attention to the Faculty of Health Sciences Bulletin and Istanbul Gelisim University Journal of Health Sciences (IGUSABDER), encouraged students to follow our "igu_sbf" instagram account.

ELKIN from Istanbul Gelisim University stated that successful students are given a success scholarship during their education, R&D Incentive Scholarship is given to our students who participate in projects with an innovative and entrepreneurial approach around the world. She mentioned that the scholarship programs are to support talented students who want to learn and that students' talents, personal achievements, and areas where they are open to development are evaluated in the scholarship process. 

Referring to the thesis and non-thesis master's programs, ELKIN stated that students are able to continue their academic careers after the undergraduate program.  Drawing attention to the ethical rules and all academic education, ELKIN suggested the students to read the Associate and Undergraduate Education-Teaching and Examination Regulations and the Disciplinary Regulations. ELKIN also made good wishes for the 2022-2023 academic year and ended her speech. Starting his speech with the reference to the anniversary of the Liberation of Istanbul from our Deputy Dean Abdullah Yüksel BARUT drew attention to the meaning and importance of the day. 

Encouraging the students to take advantage of the opportunities of the school, BARUT said that by keeping the general academic averages of the students high, they could complete the school in three and a half years by using their right to take courses from above.   
BARUT emphasized the importance of Child Development and touched upon the effect of the environment in raising children. The meeting ended with the students' questions answered.
