 WATER IS RUNNING OUT




What is Water Footprint?
Water footprint is defined as the measure of the amount of water used during the production of the products or services we consume. Water is used for the products we eat and drink, as well as the production stages of the products we use and our clothes. Measuring the water footprint provides a measure of the amount of water consumption in a region, country and worldwide.

Water Need in the World
All economic activities in the world can continue depending on water resources. Every product we consume is produced using a water source anywhere in the world.
It is predicted that the water demand in the world will increase by 55% by 2050. However, our water resources are decreasing day by day in proportion to this increase. The biggest reason for this is the increasing population. In addition, the climate crisis and consumption-oriented approaches of all societies around the world cause our most valuable resource in the world to gradually decrease. While the clean water resources become unusable due to the insufficient protection and the factors causing pollution, it also threatens the lives of many living creatures living here.

What Can We Do to Protect Our Water?
  • You can keep the tap off during hand washing, brushing teeth, shaving.
  • You can use water-saving shower heads.
  • Dripping taps cause 4 liters of water a day to be wasted. Be sure to repair dripping taps.
  • You can keep the shower time as short as possible, and if it is not necessary, you can turn off the tap completely or turn the water down.
  • Wash the dishes in the dishwasher, not by hand, and take care to run the dishwasher when it is full.
  • Instead of washing vegetables and fruits in running water, you can wash them in a water-filled container, and use the water in the container for irrigation.
  • Cooking vegetables in a pressure cooker or low heat with little water instead of boiling them in high heat helps both to preserve the nutritional value of the vegetables and to consume less water.
  • Instead of thawing frozen food by keeping it under the tap, it saves water by lowering it from the freezer beforehand and waiting for thawing.
