Weighing of Passengers Before Boarding
Passengers traveling with Korean Air will need to be weighed before boarding the plane in the coming weeks.
According to South Korean media, passengers traveling with Korean Air will need to be weighed before boarding the plane in the coming weeks. This step was taken to help regulators in Seoul update aircraft weight and balance standards. Weighing stations will be set up at Seoul's Gimpo Airport for domestic passengers between August 28 and September 6, and at Incheon Airport for international passengers between September 8-19. Airline officials stated that each passenger's weight and hand luggage will be recorded, and this data will be used by transmitting the data to the country's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The ministry will use the data obtained to calculate the average weight of a typical passenger, and this information will be used to determine seat arrangements and the amount of extra fuel the plane should carry. Airline staff stressed that overweight passengers will not have to pay extra fees and all data collected will be anonymized.
