 “HEARING AID APPLICATIONS” EVENT

The Audiology Department of Istanbul Gelişim University's Faculty of Health Sciences hosted a seminar titled "Hearing Aid Applications" (IGU). The event, which included Audiology and Speech Disorders Specialist Leyla TÜRE as a speaker, was held online on Google Meet on December 22, 2021 at 20:00.

Türe began her speech by explaining how a person with hearing loss came to the hearing aid center, explaining that they chose a hearing aid based on the degree of hearing loss and audiogram configuration of the person, as well as the form and audiological test results that the person filled out when she applied to the hearing aid center.
"She/he should use a bilateral device if the hearing loss is bilateral." We need to make it clear to the patient that using bilateral hearing aids will improve lateralization, location, sound direction determination, and noise understanding." she continued.

During the application step, an interface is utilized to fit the hearing aid after it has been chosen. Each device brand has a unique user interface. Türe, who needed to establish a virtual patient record to practice, entered the patient's name, surname, and date of birth into the system before marking the air and bone conduction thresholds on the audiogram. Before beginning the fitting, it is critical that we enter the patient's information; there are algorithms with various names and ready-made prescriptions for us to apply the hearing aid in the best way possible, and she gave information about the application.

"We choose the hearing aid speaker, and if we've made an open application, we choose the dome we'll use in the application, and then we move on to adaptation." After a hearing loss diagnosis is obtained, it takes a patient seven years to come to us in the best possible condition, prepare himself, and come to acquire a hearing aid. When we first put the hearing aid on the patient, we gain less than the goal gain that the patient requires, because when the patient is not wearing the device, they may forget how to hear normally and may not want to use the hearing aid. She discussed the steps involved in the hearing instrumentation procedure.

"It is now possible to fit hearing aids remotely. We rely heavily on remote audiometry and fitting, especially during pandemics. The otoscopic examination is really important to us. It is critical that the hearing aid application be free of earwax. After the patient has been aided, we schedule appointments within 15 days, 1 month, and 3 months. We need to see the patient in order to refresh his or her audiological tests and fitting. " She outlined the remote adjustment mechanisms as well as the pandemic process in her own terms.

"I can say that roughly ninety percent of those with hearing loss also have tinnitus," says Leyla Türe. An audiometer can be used to determine the frequency and loudness of tinnitus. We can alleviate the patient's tinnitus with the right modulations."

As we near the conclusion of the Audiology department's seminar event " Ear Mold and Hearing Aid Applications " Assist. Prof. Selva ZEREN, Lecturer Seda KETEN, Res. Asst. Çağla TÜRK, Res. Asst. Azize KÖSEOĞLU, our students and our speakers thanked  Audiology and Speech Disorders Specialist Leyla TÜRE. As a result, the event, which had been beneficial to all of our participating faculty and students, came to a close.
