 What is Audiology, Who is An Audiologist?


Audiology as the definition refers to the science of hearing.


It is a discipline that deals with the diagnosis and rehabilitation of hearing and balance disorders and the prevention of these diagnosed disorders. The Audiology department is the department that trains individuals who are competent in the early diagnosis of hearing and balance losses and in performing the appropriate treatment with a rehabilitative approach.
 
Audiology; It is a science that includes studies for the diagnosis and prevention of hearing and balance disorders for all age groups, and habilitative/rehabilitative treatment approaches, including appropriate device selection and application.
 
According to the definition of the profession made by the Turkish Republic in 2011; ''Audiologist, graduated from faculties or colleges providing undergraduate education in the field of Audiology; works on hearing and balance controls and prevention of hearing disorders in individuals, and detects and rehabilitates hearing and balance disorders and determines the devices used for these purposes, depending on the diagnosis and treatment of the relevant specialist physician and is a healthcare professional.”
 
Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Health Sciences, Audiology Department started education and training in 2013.
 
In our country, there are 39 state universities and 22 foundation universities (2021). The aim of the Audiology department is to train healthcare professionals who work on the diagnosis and rehabilitation of hearing and balance disorders and are given the title of "Audiologist". Unlike other universities, IGU Audiology Department is accredited by AHPGS. The fact that our department is one of the internationally accredited departments is an indication that it offers a certified quality education.
 
Our department aims to provide the best service to the public by offering high information standards, clinical services and research conditions to undergraduate program students.
