Career Options in Audiology Science

Our students made our Department proud and happy by completing their master's degrees in 2021 after their successful thesis defense. I congratulate them and their thesis advisors for their hard work.

For audiologists who aim to be a faculty member in their career plan, the first step is a master's program with thesis. As Istanbul Gelisim University Institute of Graduate Studies, Department of Audiology, we continue to work with the aim of opening an Audiology doctorate program.

Audiology Master's Program with thesis within the body of Istanbul Gelisim University Institute of Graduate Studies aims to train specialist audiologists who can diagnose hearing loss and balance disorders that can be seen in individuals of all ages, using objective and subjective evaluation tools, who can take part in the interpretation and rehabilitation stages of the results, who can provide counseling, who have internalized scientific thinking and are open to lifelong learning.

Audiology, by definition, refers to the science of hearing. Audiology is a science that includes studies for the diagnosis and prevention of hearing and balance disorders for all age groups, and habilitative / rehabilitative treatment approaches, including appropriate device selection and application.

The aim of the Audiology Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Istanbul Gelisim University is to train healthcare professionals who work on the diagnosis and rehabilitation of hearing and balance disorders and are given the title of "Audiologist". After completing their undergraduate education, they will be able to carry out scientific research and projects with the Audiology Master's Program with thesis, have advanced theoretical knowledge and practical experience, and have interdisciplinary studies with otolaryngology, neurology, pediatrics, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, psychiatry departments. It is aimed to bring in the health sector experts who can do this, who can use technology effectively and who have ethical values.

Students who successfully complete the Istanbul Gelisim University Institute of Graduate Studies Audiology Master's Program with Thesis graduate with the title of "Specialist Audiologist". Specialist audiologists can contribute to clinical and academic studies related to hearing and balance problems at the level of expertise, use the competencies they have developed, and make advanced professional practice and research.

Our graduates, who aim to pursue an academic career, can continue their doctoral programs by fulfilling the necessary conditions, and can work as faculty members in universities. Specialist Audiologists can work in private clinics and rehabilitation centers, research institutes or universities, hearing aid sales and application centers, cochlear implant companies, industrial institutions and schools for the hearing impaired.

Audiology, which is a relatively new branch of science, is advancing rapidly in parallel with the technological developments in the field of health. Audiologists make a meaningful contribution to public health in terms of protecting hearing health and producing effective solutions for hearing and balance problems.
