After the 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day event, the Audiology Department White Coat Ceremony took place. The White Coat Ceremony, organized by the Audiology Department, celebrated a major achievement in the students' academic journey.
The event began with the opening speech by Asst. Prof. Aydın NART, Chair of the Audiology Department. After the opening speech, Asst. Prof. A. Yüksel BARUT gave a speech emphasizing the meaning of the white coat, in which he stated:
“Dear friends, today you will wear the white coat of your profession, an honor that you will understand better in the future. It will add significance to your life and impart valuable lessons. The white coat reminds us that we must tirelessly strive for humanity. It indicates that we hold manual labor as high as knowledge.
The purpose of our university is to learn the meaning of humanity and life and, through teaching and enlightenment, to first teach what truth and honesty are. In your profession, you will never look down on any patient, any individual, or any colleague. Be considerate, because believe me, everyone you meet is fighting a battle as hard as yours.
Dear young people, do not forget that at every stage of your life, you must evaluate and develop yourself to be happy. Remember that you are responsible for keeping the white coat you are given clean throughout your life.
You are the future for your families and our country. If you want to do good and beautiful things, you must first correct your own mistakes.
Dear young people, remember these principles when you don your white coat: 1- Keep your word, 2- Honesty, 3- Trustworthiness, 4- Humility, 5- To be virtuous, 6- To be honest.
The white coat you will wear today is like a shirt of fire. You must wear it with the buttons closed in front of your patient. The closed buttons emphasize that your patient’s secrets will remain safe with you. This white coat is the dignity of your profession and the source of your patient’s trust. The master who dresses you in the white coat extends a hand to the apprentice. It shows respect for the teacher, senior, elder, and patient.
God uses good people to impose His will on earth; among these good people, healthcare workers are at the top. A healthcare worker wearing the white coat, as Yunus Emre said, is obliged to love all of creation because of the Creator. Never forget that you must keep the white coat you wear today spiritually clean and that you will pass this cleanliness on to your colleagues who come after you.”
At the end of his speech, he added, “I thank the families who have raised you, I wish you health and success in your life, and I kiss your eyes…”
Audiology is a field of enormous importance that improves people’s quality of life, diagnosing and treating hearing and balance disorders. The White Coat Ceremony reminded students of the ethical responsibilities this profession entails and their duty to contribute to public health.
The event was a meaningful memory not only for the students but also for their families and friends. By donning the white coats, the students made a significant contribution to the health sciences profession.
The event, which reinforced this special moment, increased the students' motivation through speeches and social activities. Wearing the white coat is also an important step for every professional in this field to contribute to public health.
The audiology department's white coat ceremony not only allowed students to experience the pride of stepping into their profession but also motivated them for future successes. The event contributed to the academic journey of both the students and the participants. This meaningful ceremony held in the Audiology Department has become an important symbol of education and contributions in the field of health sciences.
The Audiology Department White Coat Ceremony ended with moments where students participated in various games, accompanied by local folk songs, spending enjoyable time with their friends and families.
