IGU Tourism Guidance Students Join Technical Field Trip to Kariye Mosque and Balat in Collaboration with IRO

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Department of Tourism Guidance, organized a technical field trip to Kariye Mosque and the Balat neighborhood on October 24, 2026, in collaboration with its stakeholder, the Istanbul Chamber of Tourist Guides (IRO). Students and academic staff from the Department of Tourism Guidance participated in the trip, which was personally guided by IRO President Selçuk Eracun.

The comprehensive, full-day field trip offered students an opportunity to explore the historical and cultural heritage of Kariye Mosque and Balat firsthand. Selçuk Eracun’s detailed commentary and insights from his professional experience helped students connect their classroom learning with observations in the field. The visit provided a valuable learning environment for experiencing the practical aspects of tourist guiding and developing a professional perspective.

At the end of the trip, IGU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Serdar Egeli presented a plaque of appreciation to IRO President Selçuk Eracun in recognition of his contributions.
