IGU Tourism Guidance Students Experience On-Site Learning at Hagia Sophia Mosque and the Historic Peninsula

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Department of Tourism Guidance, organized a technical field trip to Hagia Sophia Mosque and Istanbul’s Historic Peninsula on October 26, 2026, as part of its coursework. Led by the Head of the Department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Öznur Çetinkaya, the visit offered students an opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice.

As an active professional tourist guide working in Spanish and English, Asst. Prof. Dr. Öznur Çetinkaya introduced students to the historical and cultural heritage of Hagia Sophia Mosque and the Historic Peninsula. By sharing her professional knowledge and experience, Çetinkaya helped students observe tourist guiding practices firsthand.

Through on-site learning, students reinforced the learning outcomes of their theoretical courses with practical field experience. The visit enabled them to gain a closer understanding of the practical aspects of tourist guiding and further develop their professional knowledge.
